Historic Charm

The historic McKim Mead and White buildings which include chestnut beam barns and restored farmhouses will take you a step back into history and give you a taste of the idyllic life that existed at the turn of the century on this beautiful lakefront property. Some of these historic buildings will be available for one of a kind exclusive events and wine tastings.

The remaining forty-five acres of the original 300 acre Whittemore Estate on beautiful Lake Quassapaug have been transformed into a vineyard and winery with 15,000 vines planted.

Tranquillity Vineyard & Winery is situated on the former summer estate of John Whittemore, a nineteenth century industrialist who amassed significant wealth from local iron production. A 45 acre subdivision of the original 300 acre estate was recently purchased from the family heirs by local entrepreneurs, Dean and Linda Yimoyines, and their son Alexander. The vineyard opened for public events in 2023. The vineyard is positioned on a gently sloping hill that overlooks Lake Quassapaug. Dr. Dean Yimoyines explained to me that he had committed to maintaining the estate as a peaceful oasis in the course of negotiating its purchase with Whittemore heirs. With this in mind, thousands of grape vines were planted. The vineyard lives up to its name, proving a space to appreciate the picturesque topography of Connecticut.

This place is super cute and fun. Great wines. You can tell both the owner and the winemaker care deeply about their product, they’re not just trying to make as many bottles as possible. Cheers to Dean, Frank and their families- this place will be a hit!

Fabulous view, hospitality and wine! Relaxing and comfortable atmosphere with knowledgeable owner, winemaker and staff! Highly recommended if you enjoy wine far above typical CT wines. Beautiful and relaxing view of Lake Quassapaug. Thank you Dean and Kendall for an amazing experience.

Our family had a great time tasting excellent wines and learning about the history and plans for this exquisite property on the lake. The tasting room was comfy and cozy on a chilly day. Highly recommend!
